Ten thousand years we've struck the fire,
Creation's music freely sung
With Magick joined we've praised the stars
Since first the world begun.
Our spirit lives in timeless dance,
The Tarot and the Rune,
And nights united in the power
Of Drawing Down the Moon!
-David O. Norris, 1994
This may come as a surprise to everyone, but I am Wiccan. I know what your thinking! Oh my gosh-she's the devil! She's gonna put a curse on us! Well, before you throw crosses at me, let me explain a little about the religion.
Wicca IS a RELIGION. No matter what you say, no matter what you think, that's what it is. Wiccan's don't cook people in cauldrons or sacrifice cats. Wicca is a religion where we cherish life. We commit our lives to helping others and becomming one with earth. No matter how much you want to believe that we are evil, ITS NOT TRUE. The first step in becomming Wiccan is becomming a better person. Learning to forgive others, not hold grudges, and help others in need is the first thing we learn. In order to be Wiccan, we have to believe in ourselves first, because how can we believe in anything else in life if we don't believe in ourselves?
Now, if that sounds evil to you, then I'm sorry. There's nothing I can do about that. If you truly want to believe it's evil, then I can't convince you otherwise. People fear what they don't understand. That's the way it is and has always been.
I am putting this page on my website so everyone will know my religion and I'll find out who my real friends are. I already know a number of people who will basically disown me for coming out... for being Wiccan. Very religious people. Well, I would never disown anyone for being in any religion, because Wiccans except others for who they are. We don't believe that any one religion is better than another. In fact, if someone is, for say, a Christian, but wants to try Wicca too, they are WELCOME to. In fact, if they want to do both religions they're entire lives, they can. Wicca doesn't have all these ridiculous rules to follow. Don't drink alcohol, don't dance, don't eat meat on this day, don't eat meat on that day... it's just plain silly.
God didn't put us on this earth so we could cut down his trees to build churchs to praise him in. He built this earth so we could enjoy it. So we could become one with it. It doesn't matter where you pray, when you pray or how you pray, as long as you pray... as long as you help others and live your life to the fullest. That's what God wants for us. He never wanted us to segregate... to say, "My religion is the best." or anything like that. It's not a competition. Whatever religion your in, if your in one at all, there is one thing we should all be doing. Learning to appreciate the gift that God gave us. The earth, free will, love, happiness, friendship.... His gift was not a bible, a church or any other material thing for that matter.
Everyone needs to take a look at how they are living. Going to church on Sundays, praying everyday, and doing volunteer work is not making you a better person. Accepting others for who and what they are, helping others in need, becomming one with earth, befriending the unpopular, making one more person happy each day.... that is what makes us a better person, no matter what religion your in.
